‘I see myself’: Midfielder who declined Chelsea last month admits he wants to move to a bigger club
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has claimed to SO FOOT that he sees himself playing for a bigger club within the next five years of his career.
The 21-year-old turned down a move to Chelsea late in the January transfer window.
The Blues were amid a bit of a frantic spell towards the end of the window in an attempt to add a midfielder to their ranks.
This was especially off the back of them selling Jorginho just months before his contract was set to expire at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea did eventually get their number one target though. They finally agreed a deal to sign Enzo Fernandez for a club-record fee, after fierce negotiations went right to the wire with Benfica.
Onana wants move to bigger club
It has emerged since though that despite his brilliance does need some defensive help alongside him.
Onana could be a strong candidate for that role, with him impressing despite Everton’s underwhelming campaign.
There may be some encouragement that a deal is now possible, given the player has admitted he sees himself at a bigger club than the Toffees.
He said: “I see myself having had a lot of life experiences, which will have made me learn a lot about human beings in general, as well as about myself.
“I see myself, God willing, in one of the biggest clubs recognised worldwide.”
The Blues are almost certainly going to return in the market for more signings this summer, and this will very likely include a midfielder joining the club.
The likes of Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo are all likely to be on the move at the end of the season, as bigger clubs continue to be linked with deals to poach them this summer.
