Report: Chelsea have spent the last week working out how they can sign £80m player this summer
Reports have claimed that Chelsea have spent a lot of time over the last week working out a way to still sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
According to the Daily Mail, the club feel as if the new contract signed by the player to extend his stay at the Amex does not actually change their situation too much.
The midfielder was the talk of plenty of transfer speculation last month, with Chelsea being one of the sides interested at a point in striking a deal.
The Blues even had a bid reportedly rejected for his services early in the window, as they searched the market for midfield reinforcements.
However, their pursuit fell to the wayside as a genuine possibility arose that they would be able to secure their number one target of the entire month, Enzo Fernandez.
Fierce negotiations ensued with Benfica, before a club-record transfer was eventually agreed.
Despite the fantastic addition, the Blues did sell Jorginho on deadline day, and therefore are still looking for a long-term partner to the World Cup winner.
Caicedo presents a player with the skillset that certainly can achieve that. His ability to win the ball back is rivalled by few in the Premier League, but his calmness on the ball is something that will also appeal to Chelsea.
The Daily Mail have claimed that the recent new contract signed by the player will not put them off launching a move this summer, which they understand could be in the region of £80m.
The player made a conscious effort to leave Brighton last summer, making a public statement on social media stating how much he wants to move.
It is unclear whether he still holds those feelings when this season comes to an end.
