'Such a phenomenal player': Mark Schwarzer tells Chelsea they really need to keep £80k-a-week star

Mark Schwarzer has told Chelsea they really need to keep Mason Mount at the club.

This come at a time when Mason Mount, 24, is strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

TalkSPORT claimed earlier this month that Liverpool are growing confident they’ll be able to sign Mount from Chelsea this summer.

The attacking midfielder’s current deal with the Blues expires in 2024, leaving Graham Potter’s side in a bit of a tricky situation regarding his future.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently said on YouTube that Chelsea are still making no progress during contract negotiations with Mount.

Retired goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who had a brief spell as a Chelsea player, insists his former club simply can’t allow Mount to go.

He’s a massive admirer of the Blues talent, who’s been a real favourite due to his development in the acaedmy.

“He’s almost unsellable. He’s a player you would not sell. He’s a Chelsea kid through and through. He’s been at the club all his life,” Schwarzer told Sky Sports.

“That’s what fans die for. Fans love that. He’s such an incredible player… I certainly wouldn’t be selling him because he is such a phenomenal player.”

Mount has proven time and time again he can be ridiculously good when he’s in full swing.

The £80,000-a-week (Spotrac) talent has certainly had more good days than bad days in his senior career at Chelsea, but the negatives ones appear to have come all at once this season.

He’s still contributed in games and had individual moments during this campaign, but he’s fallen off the incredibly high standards he’s set.

We wouldn’t be too surprised to see him return to form ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, though. The first leg takes place at the Bernabeu on 12 April before the return leg at Stamford Bridge six days later.
