'50/50': Manager currently completely unsure over whether to take the Chelsea job right now - Sky journalist

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol has claimed that it is 50/50 as to whether Julian Nagelsmann would take the Chelsea job right now.

He told Sky Sports that it was expected by many that he wouldn’t start his next job until the end of this season.

The hunt is on for Chelsea to find a new manager for the second time this season after the decision was finally made yesterday to sack Graham Potter.

Todd Boehly had backed his man well, continuing to defend the club’s latest boss despite the dire form domestically.

However, defeat to Aston Villa which saw the Blues drop into the bottom half of the table seemed to be too much for the American to back anymore.

The timing of Nagelsmann’s sacking at Bayern Munich has made the links to the job very obvious.

However, Solhekol has claimed that the appointment would not be an easy one for the club to make, with him still under some sort of contract at the Bundesliga side.

Nagelsmann might not even take Chelsea job

He said: “Especially when you’re somebody like him [Nagelsmann] who knows that he’s going to be in demand in the summer, the Real Madrid job could become available and Spurs are very keen on him as well. This evening, Sky Germany were saying that it was 50/50 whether he would be prepared to move quickly.

“Another complicating factor is his contractual situation with Bayern Munich, because if Chelsea wanted Nagelsmann now, even though he’s no longer manager, his contract would mean they would need to do a deal with Bayern, and Sky Germany are telling us there has been no contact yet. No negotiations at all.

“In fact, the Bayern chief executive, Oliver Kahn appeared on Sky Germany just before it was announced, and Kahn said that he didn’t expect Nagelsmann to move to another club this season. From Bayern’s point of view, it would be very complicated if he moves to Chelsea, as potentially we could have a Champions League semi-final between the two.”

There are plenty of other names linked to the job, whether that be this season or starting at the end of this campaign.

Ruben Amorim and Oliver Glasner are just two of the names that have been reported as of interest by the club.
