‘I don’t think’: John Obi Mikel can’t believe one thing Todd Boehly has done as Chelsea owner
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has claimed he has been stunned at Todd Boehly’s transfer activity since taking over Chelsea last year.
He told Dubai Eye FM that the sheer amount of players that have joined the club during the American’s reign makes it difficult to understand.
Boehly has certainly not been quiet in the two transfer windows that have happened since his time in West London began.
Before this season, they invested heavily on big-name signings, with Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana joining the club, amongst others.
This didn’t lead to immediate results, and they looked towards January in an attempt to fill the gaps that have obviously formed in their squad.
They certainly succeeded in some areas. The additions of Enzo Fernandez and Benoit Badiashile have been seen as absolute wins as far as they’re concerned.
Mikel confused at Boehly
However, the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke have found it very difficult to find minutes since joining, despite arriving with big promise regarding their impact.
Mikel has now claimed that the situation of bringing in as many players as possible is ultimately holding the club back from going forwards.
He said: “I don’t think anyone can make sense of it, people are just coming through the door, some of them are not Chelsea players, they are not good on the ball.”
With the reported financial issues that could affect the club at the end of the season, it is likely that they will not be able to spend as big on as wide a variety of players this summer.
Instead, eyes will be on who the Blues end up selling when this campaign comes to an end, with a big clear out needed at Stamford Bridge to allow any signings to come in.
