‘Really impressed’: Frank Lampard has been very impressed by £29m Chelsea player in training – journalist
Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Frank Lampard has been really impressed by Noni Madueke in Chelsea training sessions.
He told GiveMeSport that alongside Carney Chukwuemeka, the duo have stood out particularly despite their lack of recent gametime.
Madueke joined the club in January from PSV as part of an influx of signings that were supposed to be addressing the early-season issues at the club.
Despite a strong first start against West Ham United, he has strongly struggled for minutes.
This has also coincided with a strong international break he enjoyed with the England U21’s, scoring once whilst assisting two others against Benoit Badiashile’s France side.
Lampard impressed by Madueke
Despite not yet featuring since Lampard took over, Phillips has claimed that Madueke has left his mark in training.
He said: “I said last week, he was really impressed with Chukwuemeka and then he didn’t even take him to Europe. But, he does like him. He likes a number of the other young players. Noni Madueke as well. He’s another player who he likes but he hasn’t played yet.
“So, I think we could see some changes coming up in that squad in the next few games, especially if we do go out of Europe, which is looking highly likely. Then he’s got free reign, he’s got more of an open end to picking a team. He can pick whoever he wants, we’re not going to get relegated.
“Then it will just be about Lampard bringing in who he likes the look of and developing a few players whilst he’s here.”
If the Blues are knocked out of the Champions League today against Real Madrid, their season would be completely over and rotation will surely be on the cards ahead of next season.
