'All of a sudden': Gary Neville names the three people Todd Boehly should never have allowed to leave Chelsea
Gary Neville has claimed that Todd Boehly has let three people leave Chelsea that he should never have.
The pundit claimed on his podcast for Sky Sports that the decision to allow Petr Cech, Marina Granovskaia and Thomas Tuchel leave has backfired badly.
Boehly has not been short of criticism in the media for his part in what has been a dire campaign for the Blues so far.
They currently linger in the bottom half of the table, and have recently been knocked out of the Champions League to Real Madrid.
It was all change when the American took over the club, with the shake-up not just happening on the pitch.
Neville slams Boehly
A number of key figures in the boardroom moved on as they entered a new era, as well as manager Tuchel.
Neville has now claimed that the decision to allow the German to leave, as well as a couple of big names behind the scenes.
He said: “Try and get a year out of them to learn the ropes and keep the stability and consistency of Chelsea. Petr Cech left, Marina Granovskaia left, Thomas Tuchel was gone after a few games and all of a sudden you’re in complete turmoil. Then they flipped it to a model giving players eight-year contracts to 22-year-olds!
“When you start sacking groundsmen, physios, sports scientists, directors, managers, then you are throwing everyone under a bus saying, ‘it’s their fault not mine’. Chelsea had a successful way of running the club. This is now what Boehly has created. He created this mess. Like playing football manager, it’s been terrible.”
It will be interesting to see if Boehly has learnt from what have been some very obvious mistakes in his first year in charge, with the first area to judge coming in who is hired as the next manager.
