‘Decided’: Mauricio Pochettino does not have 26-year-old in his plans at Chelsea for next season - Romano
Fabrizio Romano has announced that Mauricio Pochettino has made his mind up on midfielder Denis Zakaria.
He took to Twitter to claim the new manager did not see the Switzerland international in his plans for next season, and will not sign him permanently.
After a lengthy recruitment process, Pochettino was this week announced as the new permanent manager for next season.
While it has been claimed since that he was not always the first choice for the job, he quickly emerged as the only real candidate to take the role for a number of reasons.
He has not taken long to get to work, and the big decisions have arrived at his door very early into his tenure.
Yesterday, it emerged that the Argentine was not wanting to keep Joao Felix as part of his squad for next season. This is despite the 23-year-old claiming himself that he wanted to stay when his loan deal came to an end.
Another player whose loan spell recently ended is Zakaria, albeit with far less fanfare.
Nevertheless, Pochettino has had his say there too, with Romano claiming that he will not be at Stamford Bridge next season.
He said: “Mauricio Pochettino has decided also on Denis Zakaria: Swiss midfielder’s set to leave Chelsea in June, he’s not part of the plans.
“Chelsea will not trigger the buy option clause, Zakaria will return at Juventus and then will assess his options.”
The midfielder made just seven league appearances this season, whilst only starting one game at all under interim boss Frank Lampard.
With reports that Chelsea are pushing hard to bring in Manuel Ugarte in the summer, it looks as if it will be another midfielder on the horizon at Stamford Bridge.
