‘One to watch’: Chelsea could make deal to sign ‘tremendous’ midfielder at the end of this season – journalist
Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea are ‘one to watch’ regarding the potential signing of Romeo Lavia this summer.
He told GiveMeSport that the likelihood that Southampton are relegated at the end of the season makes the potential deal a real possibility.
The Blues are on the reported hunt for a midfielder in the hope to find a long-term partner for Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park.
While the Argentine has certainly been impressive since his club-record move in January, it still feels as if he’s being held back by not having the perfect player alongside him to compliment his skills.
Lavia has enjoyed a breakout season this year for the Saints, despite the inevitable relegation to the Championship that awaits.

He was described earlier this campaign as ‘tremendous’ by pundit Rio Ferdinand, as he quickly became one of the most promising players in the entire league.
Jacobs now believes that the Blues are one to watch regarding the potential signing of the youngster.
He said: “If Southampton go down, then Lavia will almost certainly go and a variety of suitors, I think, will realise that there’s a very strong deal there. So Chelsea are another one to watch.”
Lavia is one of a number of midfielders, particularly from the Premier League, who have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Moises Caicedo was a player the club had a bid rejected for back in January, and could certainly emerge as a target again despite his new contract with Brighton.
There is always the ongoing interest in Declan Rice too, with him almost certainly about to be on the move from West Ham at the end of the season.
