‘We don’t know’: Club president admits his 23-year-old player may join Chelsea this summer

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has claimed he does not yet know if Joao Felix is going to permanently move to Chelsea this summer.

He told Marca via Fabrizio Romano that they are not ruling out a permanent or another loan move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

It seems as if Felix has settled in well at West London. Reports continue to claim that he is enjoying life in his new home.

Despite this, he is only at the club on a temporary basis for now, with there being no guarantees that he is signed on a permanent basis.

His performances have left supporters divided over what his future should be. He has frequently been a rare spark of excitement in what has been a dire season for the Blues.

Atletico unsure of Felix future

However, this has only come with a return of three goals, most recently in the win against Bournemouth last Saturday.

Nevertheless, it has been widely claimed that the Blues would love to keep the 23-year-old on a permanent basis, without yet taking into account who the potential new manager will be.

Atletico president Cerezo claimed that he himself is unsure what the future holds for Felix at this time.

He said: “We don’t know what will happen to Joao in the summer. At the moment he is at Chelsea. Then we see if he can renew or not; he can continue another season or not… but don’t worry about that.”

Chelsea fans will be hoping that the negotiations for the Portugal international will not be affecting any efforts to keep Mason Mount beyond this season.

The 24-year-old is notably struggling to come to terms with a new deal, and won’t be short of suitors in England this summer.
