I dont like: Kalidou Koulibaly now explains what he didnt enjoy about being at Chelsea
Defender Kalidou Koulibaly has now explained there were times when he didn’t feel wanted during his spell at Chelsea.
He told Guillaume Maillard Pacini that he did not enjoy being on the bench for parts of last season.
Last weekend saw Koulibaly officially join Al-Hilal, bringing an end to his just one-year stay in England.
A number of first team players took to social media to respond, with Mason Mount leading the players disappointed to see him go.
Despite the promise the Senegal international brought with him following his long-awaited big move to England, he struggled to establish himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Koulibaly didn’t like being on the bench
He has referred to this in a recent interview when stating what he did and didn’t like about his time in West London.
He said: “Here, there is everything to be well. I was welcomed in an extraordinary way, and I am in the best team in the championship (…) I am Muslim, I am arriving in an ideal country for me and my family (…) Chelsea? A great experience, but I don’t like to be on the bench doing nothing. I prefer to go where I am really wanted.
“I am one of the first players to leave Europe to join a growing championship: I hope to be able to help it write a new sporting history. And there is a very important contract, I can’t deny that it had a bearing on my decision.”
The fact Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly open to allowing him to leave is likely to be to clear a path to the top for Levi Colwill.
In an attempt to fend off interest from Brighton, the Blues will need to convince the youngster that there will be opportunities for him to flourish.
