Journalist Gianluca di Marzio has claimed that Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is now set to leave the club for Manchester City today.
He took to Twitter to state that the contracts have been signed regarding his transfer to the Champions of Europe.
Despite being a crucial member of the midfield for the last few seasons, it seems as if Kovacic’s time at Stamford Bridge has come to an end.
He certainly wasn’t a crucial player when he joined the club, however he has made sure he became ‘really important’ at the club when he was fit.
However, the player is about to enter the final year of his contract, and there will be no ambition for them to let him leave for no fee.
Kovacic set to leave today
City have established themselves as the club to be at for any top professionals right now, and their recent treble will have done them no harm when looking to turn heads of players who could be on the move.
It appears that they are now set to make Kovacic their latest signing, with Di Marzio stating that it could be confirmed as early as today.
He said: “Today is Kovacic Day: there are signatures, the official announcement will come in the next hours.”
There is no doubt that the Croatian’s ability on the ball will see him fit in nicely at the Etihad, although Chelsea will be happy with the fee they are set to recieve.
A midfielder is certainly now on the agenda for new manager Mauricio Pochettino, in order to find the strongest possible candidate to partner Enzo Fernandez going forwards.
It seems like they are honing in on a deal for Moises Caicedo, with it expected that the Blues are going to make an offer for his services in the coming days.
