Report: Chelsea now actively trying to sign £184,000-a-week striker ‘perfect’ for Premier League

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Inter Milan over Lautaro Martinez.

Chelsea register interest in Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez

According to 90min, Chelsea are interested in signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners have registered their interest in the £184,000-a-week (SalarySport) Argentina international striker.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are also claimed to be keen on the 25-year-old, who “would be perfect in the Premier League”, according to former Red Devils midfielder Owen Hargreaves on BT Sport 1 (2:27pm, December 13, 2021).

90min have claimed that while holding talks over Romelu Lukaku and Andre Onana, Chelsea have discussed Martinez with Inter.

Belgian striker Lukaku is on loan at Inter from Chelsea at the moment, while the Blues want to sign Onana in the summer of 2023.

Potentially blockbuster signing

In our view, Lautaro Martinez would be a massive signing for Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Martinez, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, is one of the best strikers in the world.

And new Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino needs to bring a new number 9 to the club for next season and beyond.

Martinez scored 21 goals and gave six assists in Serie A this season.

The Inter no. 10 has scored three goals and given three assists in the UEFA Champions League this campaign.

Inter will take on Manchester City in the final of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday.

What is really encouraging is that Martinez and Lukaku have done brilliantly playing together at Inter.

Imagine Pochettino potentially using that strike-partnership at Chelsea…
