20-year-old Chelsea player could now start first PL game of the season vs Liverpool journalist suggests

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill could now become an instant starter at Stamford Bridge.

He took to Twitter to state that manager Mauricio Pochettino is set for a one-to-one chat with the defender about his future when he returns to pre-season duty this summer.

After achieving glory on the international stage, talk regarding Colwill quickly turned to his future at club level.

Brighton, who were fortunate enough to have him on loan last season, have been prepared to smash their transfer record in order to bring the Englishman in this summer.

Liverpool have also registered their interest in a deal too, although an immediate path to the first team does not yet look clear at Anfield.

Despite interest, and the acceptance that every single Premier League side would like to have him at their club, the Blues are insistent that he is not for sale this summer.

Now, Jacobs has claimed that he could even become a starter at Stamford Bridge as early as the start of the upcoming season.

He said: “Chelsea insist Levi Colwill is not for sale. Brighton are well aware of this after a rejected bid earlier this summer.

“Liverpool won’t move unless situation changes either. Pochettino will speak one-on-one with Colwill, who could well be given an instant starting spot.”

With Kalidou Koulibaly now gone, there is a much clearer path to the first team for any defenders at the club.

Access to the left side of the centre-backs may be a lot easier to come by too, with Benoit Badiashile still suffering from an injury that occurred in training which ended his first season in England early.
