‘Hand on heart’: Frank Lampard gives his honest opinion on Todd Boehly at Chelsea
Frank Lampard has claimed that he firmly believes that Todd Boehly has the best intentions as Chelsea owner.
He told Steven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO podcast’ that some of the younger players at the club will have more of an opportunity to shine after a number of first team stars have been sold.
There has been plenty of talk about Boehly over the last 12 months since he took over as the owner of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
It cannot be said that he isn’t looking to back his new project. The American has spent far more than any owner in the time he has been at the club.
However, this has not yet translated into results on the pitch. They are coming off the back of finishing 12th in the league.
Lampard backs Boehly
Despite plenty of frustration aimed at the owner, Lampard has offered his backing as to what they are trying to do.
He said: “I think that’s understood now, in terms of what it’s meant. Already six, seven, eight players have left. Certainly, the intentions are good. The owners gave me an opportunity to go in there and I had a good relationship with them.
“Their intentions to do a good job there are amazing. They want to take the club and be the best, they have great intentions. Now, those younger players with a new voice and the squad coming tighter they’ll have a better chance to show what they’ve got.
“And they’re talented players. I can say hand on heart the owners want to do well.“
There is certainly a new wave of optimism at the club since Mauricio Pochettino has been made the new manager, with many keen to see how they get on with the new-look squad.
