Hasnt decided yet: Mauricio Pochettino has no idea if he wants to keep 24-year-old at Chelsea journalist
Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea are currently undecided as to whether they want to keep Trevoh Chalobah this summer.
He told the ‘NUFC Matters Transfer Show’ that Mauricio Pochettino is yet to make his mind up on the defender’s future.
With the return of Levi Colwill, Chalobah is one of the players whose future could well be at risk.
He has already received brilliant offers to play in Italy for Champions League finalists Inter Milan.
However, he is also the subject of Premier League interest, with Jacobs claiming that Newcastle are interested in his services.
He said: “I don’t see too much pathway for him at Chelsea if I’m perfectly honest. The advantage for him at Chelsea is the fact that he can play centre-back, right-back or defensive midfield and that could be the appeal to Newcastle as well.
Pochettino unsure of Chalobah’s future
“It’s difficult to really understand where he still gets his game time at Chelsea and that may create a window of opportunity.
“I would term the future uncertain at the moment and I would say that the player may be open to a move away, but I think from Pochettino’s point of view he really hasn’t decided yet and he wants to assess a lot of these players, the same with Conor Gallagher as well, who has been historically linked to Newcastle, before any categorical decision has been made.
“Newcastle were well aware of Chalobah in January as well, the same for Gallagher. But it’s not 100% clear at this point whether Chelsea will want to sell.
“But the player would be open, so I would say it’s one to watch. But nothing I’m aware of that is concrete on the player or club side yet.”
With Thiago Silva likely to be on the move, keeping the Englishman as a back-up would be recommended for the Blues.
However, with the quality of the other three centre-backs at the club it looks difficult for him to be a regular starter.
