‘It’s obvious’: Mauricio Pochettino names position he needs to strengthen after Chelsea’s win over Fulham
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that he needs to sign another centre-back before the transfer window comes to a close.
He told Football London that the injury recently suffered by Wesley Fofana has left his squad short on numbers at the back.
Last night saw Pochettino coach his new side to what will technically be seen as his first trophy since taking over.
Whilst the Premier League Summer Series was probably not what he was dreaming about bringing back to Stamford Bridge, he will no doubt be proud of his players for what they have achieved.
In a six-team tournament, they went into it being the side who finished lowest in the league last season, and therefore the signs of improvement are promising.
One area the Argentine will have looked at with worry is centre-back though. His second half pairing last night of Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah was disrupted after just 15 minutes when the latter was forced off with an injury.
Pochettino needs new centre-back
With Fofana set to miss the majority of the campaign, Pochettino has hinted that he will need an addition to help him work next season.
He said: “With Fofana’s injury, It’s obvious that maybe we need to reinforce this area. It’s clear.
“We need experience in midfield. My information is a player that is from France that they sign with the idea for some loan.”
Last night saw Fabrizio Romano give his trademark ‘here we go’ to the Blues’ attempts to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
The 25-year-old will be looking forward to potentially reforming a partnership at the back with Benoit Badiashile.
The deal could spell the end of Chalobah though, who the club are reportedly still keen to sell this summer.
