'Really good': Manager says £30m player has just had 'exceptional' debut after signing from Chelsea

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that he has been very impressed by the first performance for his side by former Chelsea player Mateo Kovacic.

He told the official club website that he believes the Croatian is an ‘exceptional player’.

Kovacic’s time at Stamford Bridge came to an end despite the prior couple of seasons seeing him being a crucial player.

The Blues look set to be going into a new era under Mauricio Pochettino, and the middle of the park looks set to be the position which looks the most different next season.

It will be built around Enzo Fernandez, who everyone at the club has been really impressed by in the short time he has been in West London.

Guardiola praises Kovacic

While he had a number of different partners last season, one of the most prominent ones was the Croatian international.

However, a bid of £30m saw him make the move to the recent treble winning side, potentially to replace Ilkay Gundogan.

Guardiola has been left very impressed by Kovacic after his first game for the club, which was a 5-3 win in Japan.

He said: “Really good. He is an exceptional player, we know it. It’s just the first game. He has to know us and what we want. But really, really good.”

The Blues are currently looking to Brighton to try and find his replacement for next season, with them determining that Moises Caicedo is the perfect player to bring in.

However, their efforts have been nullified up to now, as they are struggling to negotiate with the notoriously difficult Seagulls after they decided that they did not want to include Levi Colwill in a deal.
