'I'm actually surprised': Gary Neville can't believe Mauricio Pochettino sold Chelsea 24-year-old
Gary Neville has claimed that he was surprised that Mauricio Pochettino allowed Chelsea to sell Kai Havertz this summer.
He told ‘The Overlap’ that he believes the 24-year-old is going to have a far better season now he is playing for Arsenal instead of the Blues.
Havertz was one of the big names who left Chelsea during their spell of selling players who have previously played big roles at Stamford Bridge.
He racked up the most minutes for the club last season, although it is fair to say he didn’t put these to the best use when it came to his output in front of goal.
In fact, his inability to find the back of the net on a regular basis has already begun to rear its head since he moved across London.
The Germany international brought some bad publicity to himself after he became the first player in history to not score a goal in the MLS volley challenge.
Neville surprised Pochettino sold Havertz
He was also notable for missing a big chance in the Community Shield against Manchester City at the weekend, although they did win the competition on penalties.
Neville has claimed though that he is actually a big fan of Havertz, and is surprised Pochettino did not fancy working with him.
He said: “I think Havertz is a very good player. I think at Arsenal he will be a lot better than he was at Chelsea.
“I am actually surprised Pochettino let him go. I thought he would want to work with him.”
The Argentine has been getting to grips with his current squad during the pre-season tour of the United States, where he oversaw an unbeaten campaign.
Sunday will be a massive test of where they are at as they look forward to welcoming Liverpool to Stamford Bridge, with them also having ambitions of the top four.
