‘Really impressing’: Mauricio Pochettino has been wowed by 21-year-old Chelsea player in training – Romano
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been very impressed by Ian Maatsen in training so far.
He claimed during his stream on Kick that this is why Chelsea are now open to allowing Marc Cucurella leave on loan this summer.
It was perhaps unexpected that Maatsen would be as involved as he is this season, after returning from a very successful loan spell at Burnley.

As he helped his side to promotion from the Championship, it was expected by many that they would eventually strike a deal to sign him permanently.
However, he played a key role in the club going unbeaten in pre-season, featuring in a variety of positions.
Now, Romano has claimed that he has maintained these standards in training since then, and is certainly in Pochettino’s plans in the left-back role.
Pochettino wowed by Maatsen
He said: “Ian Maatsen is really impressing in training sessions and is really appreciated by Mauricio Pochettino and his staff so Chelsea feel it makes no sense to keep Cucurella with no European Football, he can leave if Chelsea get a loan fee & Salary coverage.”
It has been claimed in recent days that the Spaniard is being considered by Manchester United in an attempt to solve their short-term left-back issues.

Luke Shaw has suffered an injury, and his return date is currently unknown as he looks to begin rehabilitation yet again.
Another player they have been considering bringing in is former Blue Marcos Alonso. The marauding wing-back only left Stamford Bridge 12 months ago.
With Lewis Hall recently departing the club, it is essential they now keep Maatsen as a priority to maintain strength in depth in the position.
