'A message to all his players': Fabrizio Romano now says Pochettino is using £30m Chelsea player as an example

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is using Noni Madueke as an example to the rest of the squad.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mauricio Pochettino left Noni Madueke out of Chelsea’s squad for a recent Carabao Cup game against Brighton & Hove Albion after a video emerged of the winger partying while he was out injured, and Romano, writing in his Substack column, says one reason why Pochettino disciplined him is because he wanted to send “a message to all his players”.

Madueke is yet to start a game in the Premier League this season and may now find it hard to win a spot in his manager’s first XI.

Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer were excellent last time out, with both players managing to get their name on the scoresheet against Burnley.

Noni Madueke still young

Madueke, who joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth around £30m, is still just 21 years of age.

Ultimately, the England U21 international is likely to make mistakes. The most important thing is that he learns from them.

If he does not, then his Chelsea career is probably not going to go to plan under Pochettino.

The Argentine has already made it clear that he will not tolerate certain things. And again, the Blues’ other wide men are starting to find form, so it will not be easy for Madueke to break into the starting XI.

But hopefully he has heard his manager loud and clear and gets a proper opportunity soon, which could come when Chelsea take on Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup.
