'Chaotic whirlwind': Martin Keown claims 22-year-old Chelsea star always plays at 100mph
Martin Keown has described Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk as a “chaotic whirlwind” whenever he’s on the pitch.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who’s just 22, is still searching for the consistency in his game since arriving at Chelsea midway through last season from Shakhtar Donetsk.
However, there’s definitely signs in the past few games that Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino may be getting the best out of him.
He’s an exciting left-winger with pace to burn and a desire to run 1v1 at defenders. However, he’s still pretty rough around the edges.
Keown has put together a pretty accurate description that everything is 100mph together with Mudryk.
Hopefully, the attacker’s first goal for the club in Monday night’s 2-0 Premier League win against Fulham may help settle him down.
Keown wrote in The Daily Mail: “Mauricio Pochettino’s front three that beat Fulham — Mykhailo Mudryk, Armando Broja and Cole Palmer — look like a good mix. Pochettino has said you ‘cannot buy confidence in the supermarket’ but after getting his first goal against Fulham, Mudryk may come out of his shell.
“Mudryk is a chaotic whirlwind, always operating at 100mph. Whereas Palmer is calmness personified.”
Paul Merson has told Chelsea’s Mudryk that he needs to “relax” on the pitch, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
Once everything clicks into gear for him, the Blues may still have a pretty special talent on their hands. It’s worth reminding everyone he’s still just 22 without that much experience yet, too.
It’s great news to hear that Mudryk is in Chelsea’s squad for Saturday afternoon’s trip to Burnley in the final league game before the international break.
We expect the dynamic forward to retain his spot in the starting line-up. The Burnley defence will certainly be wary of Mudryk’s pace and directness going into the contest.
