Alan Shearer was seriously impressed by the performance he’s just seen from Chelsea’s Levi Colwill.
Chelsea recorded an important 2-0 away victory against Fulham on Monday night, which was only their second Premier League win of the season.
Now, the Blues travel to Burnley on Saturday afternoon with a spring in their step for the final match before the international break.
Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill, who’s just 20, continued his run against Fulham of starting every league match this season.
The versatile defender enjoyed a great outing at left-back, which included providing a superb through balled assist for Mykhailo Mudryk’s goal.
Shearer decided to include Chelsea’s emerging talent in his Premier League Team of the Week segment.
He wrote on the Premier League’s official website: “Levi Colwill (Chelsea). Assisted Mykhailo Mudryk’s opening goal with a pinpoint long pass over the top. Great display at left-back.”
Colwill appears to be a nailed-on starter in this Chelsea line-up right now, whether that’s starting at centre-back or left-back.
Our guess is he’ll have done enough again to earn another England senior call-up when Gareth Southgate names his Three Lions squad. Hopefully, he can get on the pitch for his first cap this time around.
Danny Murphy described Colwill as a “beautiful footballer” after the Fulham performance, as quoted by talkSPORT (9:58pm, 2 October).
It’s obvious this Chelsea side is one that’s still trying to work out the formula to score more goals and break opposition teams down. However, one saving grace is that the backline is looking pretty solid still, with Colwill playing a key role in defence.
