'I'm really intrigued': Rio Ferdinand shares what fascinates him about Chelsea
Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he’s “really intrigued” to see what Chelsea’s future looks like.
In particular, he’s fascinated by all the long-term contracts handed out at Stamford Bridge.
He was left stunned by Chelsea’s latest setback at the weekend, losing 2-0 at home to Brentford in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have hit another bump in a challenging season so far. Next, Tottenham and Manchester City wait in the upcoming league games after they face Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night.

Rio Ferdinand intrigued
Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand has been reacting to Chelsea’s latest defeat in the league.
He’s raised the talking point about the decision from the Blues owners to reward players with long-term deals.
“Chelsea take one step forward and two steps back. I though the other day they played really well and then a result like this comes out of the blue,” Ferdinand told FIVE’s YouTube channel.
“I’m really intrigued to see how it pans out over the longer period of time. With the length of contracts they’ve given out, how’s that going to play out?”
Time will tell at Chelsea
The general concern from day one of this contract strategy has been what do you do when you’ve got an unwanted player sat on a long-term deal? In theory, the Blues could be locked in and forced to pay an individual for five-plus years without even using him.
There’s several individuals in the squad that the club has invested a lot of money and time in, so what happens if they can’t fit into Pochettino’s plans?
For example, Nicolas Jackson joined Chelsea in the summer and he’s under contract at the club until 2031.
The 22-year-old’s still finding his feet in English football and is under-fire from some criticism, but it looks like the club will need to make it work with him.
Speaking on talkSPORT this week, Andy Jacobs suggested Jackson isn’t good enough for the Premier League right now.
Like Ferdinand, we’re nervously waiting to see what becomes of the players on these mega deals.
