‘My idol’: Dejan Kulusevski actually admits Chelsea legend is his footballing hero
Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski has claimed that his footballing idol is actually someone who made his name at Chelsea.
He told TalkSPORT that Eden Hazard is the former Blue who was his favourite player when he was growing up.
Last week saw Hazard make the emotional choice to retire at the age of just 32.
He had suffered some terrible luck in terms of injuries and selection since he made the move from Stamford Bridge to Real Madrid.
Tributes poured out for the Belgian after he announced his decision, with many names associated with Chelsea taking to social media to pay respect to a legendary career.
Another player who has now said his thanks is Kulusevski, stating how much influence the Premier League winner had on him despite playing for a now-rival team.
Kulusevski idolised Hazard
He said: “My idol in the football world is Eden Hazard. He was an unbelievable player and by far, my favourite player.
“I think football is love. Football is about love and he gave me such happiness watching him play, but not just me.
“He was an unbelievable player and I remember going to school and being happy because he had a game after school, so he changed the days. The days went faster and then when he played I just enjoyed.
“I actually met him one time and it was a good moment, but I’m so sad that I never played against him or with him because now I played Belgium on Monday and he’s retired, but the thing that people remember is what a great player he was.
“I want to say thank you to him and wish him all the best for his career.”
Hazard returned to action in some capacity last night, featuring in a charity match alongside Kylian Mbappe’s father, who he assisted a quality goal for.
