'I think': Jason Cundy gives his score prediction ahead of Newcastle vs Chelsea

Chelsea will be looking to start strong after the international break when they travel to Newcastle United this weekend.

Jason Cundy, who’s a former Chelsea player and Blues supporter, is hopeful ahead of the trip to St James’ Park.

On paper, Newcastle away is certainly one of the toughest fixtures in the current Premier League season.

It’s worth remembering that Mauricio Pochettino’s side were beginning to build up some momentum before the two-week break for international fixtures, though.

There’s no doubt that there’s a bit more consistency dripping into the group with team selection. Let’s hope they can find that with more consistent performances, too.

Score prediction

Cundy is going with the bold prediction of a Chelsea away victory at Newcastle.

He told talkSPORT (11:09pm, 23 November): “I’ve gone for a Chelsea 2-1 win… I think this is a game right now that I feel we can go and win. I’m not sure too many people will feel we can, but baring in mind the injuries that Newcastle have got and looking at us at the moment and how we’ve played this season, it feels like a game we’re capable of winning.”

In fairness, we’ve seen this season the Blues take points off the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool. Pochettino’s men do prefer to bring their A-game against the top sides.

Meanwhile, speaking together on The Overlap this week, Ian Wright and Roy Keane predicted a Newcastle win over Chelsea.

Chelsea travel to Newcastle with shooting boots on

It makes a rare change in recent times for Chelsea to enter a match knowing there’s several in-form goal threat in their ranks.

Hopefully, Nicolas Jackson can add to his tally of four goals in two games. The Blues striker is beginning to really settle and prove a point.

In addition, Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling are getting a lot of praise for bringing goals and creativity to the XI. The former Manchester City duo are emerging as important figures in this new-look team under Pochettino.

They’ve set the bar high as attacking unit in the last month, so fans are now expecting to see a real threat in any match. It’s a good test tomorrow afternoon against a Newcastle defence that has conceded 13 times in 12 league games so far this season.
