'One of the best': Moises Caicedo says 22-year-old Chelsea star is already one of the world's best in his position
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is already one of the world’s very best midfielders.
That is according to Blues teammate Moises Caicedo.
Enzo Fernandez, who’s just 22, is a key player in midfield for both Chelsea and Argentina’s national team.
The South American star has been colossal for the Blues since arriving in west London back in January, so much so that we barely hear anything about his huge £106.8million (Sky Sports) price tag.
He’s now forming an exciting partnership in Chelsea’s midfield this season alongside Caicedo, who’s also 22, as well as Conor Gallagher.
Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino is certainly getting the balance right in the centre of the park during recent games.

Chelsea appreciation
During an interview on the Premier League: The Big Interview programme, which aired on Sky Sports this week, Caicedo delivered high praise on Fernandez. This included the revelation that he helped convince him move to Stamford Bridge in the summer with a personal phone call.
Caicedo told Sky: “It’s true; Enzo phoned me, and it was a night chat. I mean, the fact that a world champion was phoning you. One of the best midfielders in the world. Receiving that call was very nice, and he convinced me to come here.
“Now I’m enjoying playing alongside him…”
Enzo Fernandez is magic
We’re inclined to agree that Fernandez does rank alongside some of the world’s top central midfielders right now. In particular, he’s certainly one of the best youngsters in his position.
He’s already a World Cup winner for Argentina, playing a key role in the 2022 tournament in Qatar. The way he’s taken to Premier League football so quickly is really impressive, too.
Chelsea do have a midfielder who’s the complete package when it comes to his work both on and off the ball. If he plays well, the Blues usually have a good grip on the game.
Speaking via ESPN earlier in the season, Mario Melchiot admitted he loves “the aura” of Fernandez and the way he plays the game.
Let’s hope he can have a long-term future at Chelsea that brings lots of silverware.
