'Different player': John Obi Mikel thinks Mauricio Pochettino has completely transformed £40m Chelsea man
Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel thinks Cole Palmer has looked like a completely different player under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City in a £40m deal (Sky Sports) during the summer and the attacker has really impressed at Stamford Bridge.
And John Obi Mikel has credited Mauricio Pochettino for Palmer’s form in an interview with CNN.
The 21-year-old has scored four goals and provided two assists in 10 Premier League appearances. His displays have even caught the attention of pop star and former Watford chairman Sir Elton John.
John Obi Mikel praises Mauricio Pochettino and Cole Palmer
Mikel has only had kind things to say about Pochettino and Palmer.
Speaking about the pair on CNN, the former Chelsea player said: “What he does with young players is absolutely fantastic. Look what he’s doing with Palmer now. He’s come from Manchester City. He didn’t play as many games as he wanted. He’s come to Chelsea and he’s performing really well. It’s like a different player.
“He’s creating chances, scoring goals and also the confidence that he has, the arrogance that he has now. And I think that transfers from the manager. The manager’s probably given him that and said: ‘Go out there, be who you are and perform the way you want to perform.’ And that freedom has just given him that.
“He expresses himself, a little bit of arrogance, a little bit of cheekiness here and there. That’s what we want, that’s what we need and the performances will come with that.”

Mauricio Pochettino getting the best out of Cole Palmer
Palmer is really excelling under Pochettino, performing exceptionally well from the right-hand side.
Without him, Chelsea would be even lower in the Premier League table. All in all, it is clear to see that the England international is developing at an incredible rate at Stamford Bridge.
His former manager Pep Guardiola, though, is also an exceptional coach, probably the best in the world right now.
Had he stayed at the Etihad and the City boss used him, we would probably be seeing the same Cole Palmer.
Guardiola could not guarantee the attacker minutes, though, bringing in Jeremy Doku in the last transfer window — strengthening an already strong attack.
Considering that, Palmer made a good decision joining Chelsea and linking up with Pochettino. He is not going to win as many trophies as he would have at City. In fact, with the way the Blues are playing, he would be fortunate to reach a semi-final with them.
However, Palmer is playing and developing, which is what most players his age want.
