'I saved that picture': Patrick Bamford shares what Fernando Torres once did to him in Chelsea training

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford never got to play for Chelsea during his time at the club.

However, as a young player, Patrick Bamford was at least able to train with some very top footballers, including Spain legend Fernando Torres. And it seems like Bamford really impressed him at times.

The 30-year-old recently shared on My Mate’s A Footballer that he once scored an overhead kick in training, resulting in Torres giving him a pat on the back.

While the two never actually played next to each other on the pitch, Bamford would have learned a lot training with Torres and the rest of Chelsea‘s senior squad at his young age.

Patrick Bamford’s wholesome moment with Fernando Torres

Bamford recounted the time when Torres patted him for scoring a very good goal in training.

Discussing the moment on My Mate’s A Footballer, the former Chelsea striker said: “I scored an overhead kick in, I think it was that same training session, and I remember Torres gave me a little pat on the back. I saved that picture. It was on my old phone.”

Chelsea lacking figures like Fernando Torres today

Let’s not rewrite history. Torres’ time at Stamford Bridge was very mixed.

While the former Liverpool forward managed to win some big honours, including the Champions League, he was never able to recapture the form he showed at Anfield and be a prolific No.9 for Chelsea.

Nevertheless, Torres arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of experience and still contributed to the club’s successes during his time there. He was still a senior member of the squad and a model professional who was in a position to support some of the young players around Cobham like Bamford.

At Chelsea, who is doing that now, other than Thiago Silva? Under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the club have sold and let go of a lot of their experienced players, leaving a squad of young footballers left who are really struggling at the moment. Going forward, there needs to be more of a balance.
