‘I was told’: PL side now think they have great chance to sign 21-year-old Chelsea man in January – journalist
Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that a Premier League side now believe they have a chance to sign one Chelsea player when the transfer window opens again in a few days’ time.
He told GiveMeSport that West Ham United are confident that they will be able to strike a deal to sign Ian Maatsen from Stamford Bridge when the January transfer window opens again.
Maatsen has found opportunities to start impossible to come by this season, even if injuries have looked to present him an opportunity to start at left-back.

Both Ben Chilwell and now Marc Cucurella have spent extended spells on the sidelines due to injury, however Mauricio Pochettino has looked elsewhere when filling the void.
This has mostly resulted in Levi Colwill playing in this role, despite his youth career seeing him come up as a natural central defender.
With the Dutchman only featuring off the bench, it is no surprise that reports have begun to link him with a move elsewhere.
West Ham confident of Maatsen
Now, Jones has claimed that West Ham are confident that they can be the ones to secure a deal.
He said: “Maatsen at Chelsea is somebody that they are interested in again. They had a look at him in the summer and I was told that they feel they’ve got a good chance of keeping him within the Premier League.
“I think their main competition might come from the continent at the moment, but West Ham are at least going to try again, and see if they can do anything.
“But yeah, it’s quite a big month actually for West Ham, and they’ve got to be really careful about the type of business they do. And also, of course, tread around the issue of David Moyes’ contract, which is starting to expire once we get into the new year.”
With there being less than two years on Maatsen’s recently extended contract, it is likely that a decision is made one way or another next month.
