'The best': Darren Bent claims Chelsea player has outperformed Enzo Fernandez this season
Darren Bent thinks Conor Gallagher has been the best midfielder at Chelsea so far this season.
Conor Gallagher, 23, has enjoyed the first half of the campaign as a nailed-on starter in the team.
It says a lot about the young midfielder that he’s even emerged as the stand-in captain for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Thankfully, journalist Dean Jones reported via GiveMeSport this week that he’s expecting Gallagher to eventually sort a new contract out with Chelsea and stay at Stamford Bridge.
Better than Enzo Fernandez this season
TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has hailed the impact of Gallagher this year on the Chelsea team, insisting he’s been better than fellow midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Bent told talkSPORT: “When you look at all the money they’ve spent in that midfield area, I know he’s an academy graduate, I understand that, I think he’s been better than all of them. Enzo Fernandez, Caicedo is still yet to get going. I think Conor Gallagher has been the best.”

Gallagher deserves all the praise he’s receiving this season, standing out above most of his teammates. In particular, he’s been the outstanding Blues midfielder by a distance.
Fernandez, 22, was brilliant during his first few months at Chelsea during the second half of last season. However, we feel he’s still desperately trying to find some rhythm this term.
Incidentally, speaking via the club website, Chelsea head coach Pochettino has confirmed that Fernandez is unavailable to play tomorrow for the league clash away at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old defensive midfielder Caicedo is fighting to find his best form. Chelsea fans are yet to the version of him that excelled in Brighton colours last season.
We hope Gallagher can continue this vein of form as he tries to drive forward an inconsistent side. The Blues would be in a much better place if his teammates matched his passion and commitment.
