'Banana skin': Paul Merson predicts the score ahead of Liverpool vs Chelsea tomorrow night

Liverpool and Chelsea will be involved in a very tight game tomorrow night at Anfield.

That is according to Paul Merson.

Liverpool host rivals Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Premier League, which pits first in the table against ninth.

A lot has changed since the clubs played out a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the league season back in August.

Interestingly, the last seven meetings between them have finished in draws after 90 minutes, albeit Liverpool won a couple of penalty shootouts during two cup finals in that run.

Merson is just edging with a Liverpool win over Chelsea in his score prediction for this week’s showdown.

He told Sportskeeda: “Liverpool have to keep on winning and if they get six points against Chelsea and Arsenal, they’ll take some beating in the Premier League title race. I expect them to win, but if you look at Chelsea’s last ten games, they’ve lost just twice and this game has been a bit of a banana skin for the Reds over the years, so it won’t be easy.

“… I wouldn’t be surprised if this game foes either way as form is usually thrown out of the window when two top six sides come head to head, but I think Liverpool will just edge it.

“Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea.”

Liverpool vs Chelsea

We’ve seen Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea side hit a good purple patch of form lately, but it’s a big ask to go and win away at high flyers Liverpool.

On top of Liverpool’s form and quality, they’re now extra fuelled by the fact that Jurgen Klopp is leaving the club at the end of the season.

The Chelsea Chronicle has predicted the starting line-up for the Blues trip to Liverpool.

Our hope is that the Blues continue their trend this campaign of usually raise their levels when they step onto the pitch against the top sides. Some of the team’s best performances this season have come against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
