'He is that good': Troy Deeney claims 21-year-old Chelsea star is already one of the best players on the planet
Troy Deeney has waxed lyrical about the greatness of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
It’s been quite a challenging first half of the season at Chelsea with some very inconsistent results, but there’s one player at Stamford Bridge that is flying right now.
Cole Palmer, who’s just 21, is performing at a different level to most of his teammates on a weekly basis.
The left-footed attacking midfielder has contributed eight goals and six assists in 19 Blues appearances this campaign.
On top of that, the senior England international has had a great aura around him since arriving from Manchester City in the summer.
Let’s remember he’s still a relative novice at first-team level, too!

Troy Deeney picked out Chelsea’s Palmer as one of the youngsters to watch out for in 2024. He also paid him the ultimate compliment that the creative playmaker is already one of the world’s very best players.
When discussing Palmer, Deeney told The Sun: “Not only is this guy one of the best in England right now, but I will expand that and say one of the best on the planet. He is that good.
“Punters said he made a mistake leaving his boyhood Manchester City in the summer in a shock £42.5million switch after winning it all at such a young age.
“But the young man has proven to be worth every penny of his price tag, and does not look fazed in the slightest.
“I am certain he is going to have another amazing year in a Chelsea shirt, with the Euros also on the horizon…”
Cole Palmer one of the world’s best
We’ll refuse to get too carried away with Palmer just yet and say he’s still got many levels to reach, but there’s no denying that his potential is gigantic.
He’s easily our pick of the signings since the change of ownership at Stamford Bridge.
In a study published by CIES Football Observatory this week, Palmer is currently valued higher than Arsenal and England star Declan Rice.
Chelsea really did strike gold when they convinced Man City to sell them Palmer.
If Mauricio Pochettino’s side are to improve in the second half of the season, their new talisman in attack is likely to be crucial with his goals and creativity.
