Chelsea were left embarrassed at Anfield last night after they were defeated 4-1 by Liverpool in the Premier League.
With many seeing the game as a dress rehearsal for the EFL Cup final at the end of the month, they will have been left with a feeling of dread at the prospect of facing Jurgen Klopp’s men at Wembley.
Christopher Nkunku’s goal off the bench was a small glimpse of promise for what the future can hold for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with the manager likely fuming with what he had seen.
The referee, Paul Tierney, will not have escaped the wrath of the Argentine, after he elected to not award the Blues one of what looked like two clear penalties.
If there was one Chelsea starter who could perhaps be praised for his performance would be Djorjde Petrovic. This is despite conceding four goals across the 90 minutes.
The 24-year-old impressed greatly between the sticks, making nine saves to mostly deny Darwin Nunez finding the net at any point.
Petrovic impresses vs Liverpool
Ever since Robert Sanchez dropped out of the team due to injury, Petrovic has taken his chance brilliantly and looks as if he is undroppable right now in Pochettino’s side.
The Blues will be preparing for the EFL Cup final now, and one thing is for certain that Petrovic should be the player trusted with the gloves for the big game.
His record from penalties is already impressive, with him making that famous save against Newcastle United in the quarter-finals.
