'Regularly': Pat Nevin shares what he's noticed about Chelsea fans inside Stamford Bridge

Pat Nevin has commented on what he’s noticed about the Chelsea fans inside Stamford Bridge.

According to the BBC pundit and former Chelsea star, the mood of Blues supporters has been very dull at home fixtures so far this season.

In fairness, it’s been another frustrating campaign so far. Therefore, we’re completely understandable of the unrest from some sections of the fanbase, even if we’d prefer that not to spill into the crowd on a matchday.

For Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino, it feels like he’s still got a major job on his hands.

Football.London reported earlier this month that Chelsea still have no immediate intention of sacking Pochettino.

Nevin has been discussing the atmosphere from Chelsea’s home fans at the Bridge in recent months. He’s compared the bad mood to what’s happening at Old Trafford with Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Writing for the BBC Football Extra newsletter, Nevin said: “My beloved Chelsea at Stamford Bridge regularly has the matchday atmosphere of a mausoleum on a rainy Monday. Quite fitting as there is a cemetery just behind the main stand.

“Old Trafford did not have the graveyard excuse when Spurs came at the weekend, though to be fair there was not much for the home fans to get excited about in the second half.

“It seems to take a lot to get Chelsea and Manchester United fans stirred at the moment, but the passion will hopefully come back if and when they ever get back to the top table of the game.

“The problem is, it doesn’t look imminent for either.”

Chelsea atmosphere at Stamford Bridge

It’s been a shock to the system in the last couple of years for Chelsea fans to see their team go from one of the best around to pretty average.

However, we think it could be a big turning point in this 2023/24 season if the Blues can qualify for the Carabao Cup final.

We’re optimistic that we’ll get a loud and excited crowd at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea host Middlesbrough next Tuesday night in the League Cup semi-final second leg. They’re going to need an extra push from supporters to overturn the 1-0 aggregate deficit.
