‘Has to start’: Chelsea fans urge Mauricio Pochettino to play £52m man against Liverpool

Chelsea are now just one day out from the League Cup final versus Liverpool.

There’s a collection of Blues fans on social media that are urging Mauricio Pochettino to pick Christopher Nkunku in tomorrow’s showpiece at Wembley Stadium.

Unfortunately, Nkunku’s injury-hit first season at Chelsea has resulted in him making only nine appearances across all competitions so far.

The 26-year-old attacker is back to playing regular games in the last couple of months, but he’s still yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

He was a substitute in Chelsea’s impressive 1-1 draw at Manchester City last weekend, so will head coach Pochettino be bold enough to change his starting line-up?

Nkunku can play a variety of different attacking roles, including as a No 10, No 9 or left-winger.

The £52 million forward (Sky Sports) definitely brings an extra goal threat to the XI, but we’ve still got doubts about whether he’s at his sharpest yet.

The Chelsea Chronicle has made a predicted starting line-up to face Liverpool, with Nkunku only on the bench.

Chelsea fans demand Christopher Nkunku starts cup final

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media think Nkunku should be promoted to the starting line-up against Liverpool.

Despite the fact he’s not starting a lot of games, he did come off the bench to score a superb goal in last month’s 4-1 loss at Liverpool.

Here are some Blues fans on X discussing Nkunku:

One fan wrote: “Nkunku has to start this match.”

Another said: “Would love to see him start.”

A third claimed: “Absolutely start. I can’t stress this enough. We need to finish our chances. Had we done that against city we would have won.”

Another posted: “Nkunku should start along side Jackson and Palmer.”

A fifth supporter uploaded: “I’m sure he is a man of big moments and I think he should start but who would he bench?”

Another said: “It might be our biggest achievement this season, you play to win & you need your best players, play this man! Go bold Pochettino.”

Finally, one shared: “If Pochettino has any bottle, he’ll play nkunku in the final and preferably in the CAM position or LW since Sterling isn’t better than him.”
