'Very good': Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister praises two Chelsea players before EFL Cup final

Chelsea have two quality players in their midfield with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

That is according to Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister.

It’s sure to be an interesting midfield battle tomorrow afternoon when Chelsea play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Reds midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, 25, knows his upcoming opponents very well.

He previously played alongside Moises Caicedo at Brighton. Meanwhile, he still partners Enzo Fernandez at international level with World Cup champions Argentina.

Liverpool’s midfield general has complimented the Chelsea duo just days before the League Cup final.

“They have very good players with Enzo and Caicedo in the middle but we have got our players,” Mac Allister said, as quoted by The Independent.

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez improving

We certainly feel like the Caicedo-Fernandez pivot in Chelsea’s midfield is really beginning to gel into something quite formidable.

There’s been scrutiny of the pair at times because of their respective huge price tags, but recent form suggests they’re getting the balance right in the centre of the park.

Speaking via DAZN earlier this month, Gary Cahill claimed he thinks the duo of Caicedo and Fernandez is only going to improve over time.

Meanwhile, speaking via Sky Sports this week, Paul Merson explained why he thinks Fernandez is the key player for Chelsea in their quest to beat Liverpool on Sunday in the League Cup final.

Caicedo is the ball-winner and the destructive force out of possession. That leaves Fernandez alongside him as the midfield playmaker that pulls the strings for Chelsea and tries to dictate the tempo of the ball.

Ultimately, we’re going to need a much better overall team performance versus Liverpool from last month’s 4-1 defeat to them. We feel the side is in a much better spot only a few weeks later, largely down to this bounce in midfield.
