‘One name’: Chelsea could appoint manager who embarrassed Thomas Tuchel as interim boss - journalist

Chelsea could consider a surprise name for the job of interim manager if they are forced to get rid of Mauricio Pochettino before the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino is under pressure right now, with Chelsea currently sitting in the bottom half of the table.

If things get any worse, the Blues may have no choice but to sack the 52-year-old. And according to journalist Simon Phillips, if that happens, former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch is “one name” that they could end up turning to. Phillips was discussing the club’s manager situation on his Substack.

Considering all of the above, then, Pochettino really needs a win tonight when Chelsea take on Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho is another man who will be available to hire should Pochettino be dismissed, with the Portuguese desperate to get back in the dugout again.

Chelsea could turn to Jesse Marsch

With Marsch still out of work after leaving Leeds last year, the American is an easy appointment to make.

However, if Marsch is the kind of name Chelsea are going to consider if they sack Pochettino now, would there actually be any point in ditching the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss? Honestly, no.

Marsch was fired as Leeds manager and did not do anything amazing during his time in the Premier League, though he was able beat Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side 3-0 in one fixture.

Chelsea would be better off waiting until the end of the season and bringing in a more permanent solution instead.

Of course, while his side are struggling at present, there is no guarantee that the Blues will get rid of Pochettino. He has a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge and if the team finish the Premier League campaign strongly and reach the FA Cup semi-finals or final, perhaps that will convince the owners to give him another chance. It is clear, though, that Pochettino’s future is up in the air.
