TalkSPORT pundit is so convinced Mauricio Pochettino is playing £32m Chelsea man in the wrong position
Paul Ince thinks Mauricio Pochettino is getting it all wrong with one of his Chelsea players right now.
Chelsea bought Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal last summer for £32m (The Guardian) and the 22-year-old has been leading the line for the Blues this season.
However, Ince, speaking on talkSPORT, has claimed that striker is not Jackson’s best position after watching him play on the left for Villarreal last term.
Whatever the case, Pochettino’s hands are tied right now and he does not have much choice but to start the Senegalese footballer up front. Christopher Nkunku is currently out injured, while Armando Broja joined west London rivals Fulham on loan in January.
Jackson has admitted that he needs to score more goals, with the Chelsea man netting 11 so far this season.
Paul Ince does not think Nicolas Jackson is a striker
While Ince thinks Jackson is capable of playing up front, he does not see it as the Senegal international’s best position.
“They need a striker,” the Manchester United legend said on talkSPORT. “They bought Nkunku, but he’s never fit. Jackson’s not a centre-forward really. When he was at Villarreal, he was playing on the left-hand side. That’s his normal position but can play that role.
“But they’ve never actually got a striker and that’s always been a problem.”

Nicolas Jackson will finish the season as Chelsea’s first-choice striker
As mentioned earlier, Jackson is Pochettino’s only real centre-forward option right now.
When Nkunku returns, it is also important to remember that he is actually not a natural No.9 and prefers playing behind one.
That and the fact that the Frenchman cannot stay fit mean Jackson will probably finish the campaign as the team’s main striker.
Going forward, though, who knows what will happen? Jackson has the attributes to play as a winger and has started there a few times this season. He is fast, direct and can dribble past defenders. It is perhaps something for Pochettino to think about, especially if Chelsea go on to sign a new No.9 in the summer.
