Gary Lineker thinks ‘quality’ Chelsea player just did something Lionel Messi would be proud of

Pundit Gary Lineker has heaped praise on one Chelsea player for a moment of brilliance in their 3-2 win this weekend.

The Blues were by no means convincing over the 90 minutes on Saturday, however did enough in the right moments to snatch all three points.

They scored twice in a couple of minutes late on to turn things around, with the story of the match being the instant impact had by Reece James.

The club captain was playing his first game since December, although was on hand to assist Nicolas Jackson within moments of entering the field of play.

Lineker said on ‘The Rest is Football’ that watching his assist on Saturday reminded him of watching Lionel Messi.

He said: “Cole Palmer, what about the pass for the Mudryk goal. The weight of it! It was Messi esque that was!”

Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo was well aware of the danger Palmer was to his side on Saturday, describing him as ‘quality’ before the game.

He moved to 10 assists at the weekend to add to his 21 Premier League goals, a superb output for any player.

However, a player in just his first real season as a regular is an immense achievement, and something that puts him in good stead to feature at the European Championships this summer.

James will be hoping his return from injury has not come too late to not be considered for a place on the plane himself.
