How the national media reacted to Cole Palmer's display as England reach the final of Euro 2024

Chelsea have three players that have made it all the way to the final of Euro 2024.

England beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday night in the semi-finals, with Ollie Watkins scoring a 90th minute winner.

Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher were both used as substitutes by England in their success.

On the other half of the draw, Spain beat France 2-1 in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening to reach Sunday’s final in Berlin.

Blues left-back Marc Cucurella, who’s having a wonderful tournament for the Spanish, will come up against some familiar faces at England.

National media reacts to Cole Palmer display

Palmer continued in his role at this tournament as an impact substitute, this time coming on in the 80th minute when England were level at 1-1 with the Dutch.

His forward pass assisted fellow substitute Watkins for the late winning goal, though.

Here is how some of the national media in England reacted to the contribution of Chelsea’s attacking playmaker.

The Independent wrote: “Cole Palmer – 7/10.

“Shanked the ball high and wide when he had a half-chance in the 88th minute; usually wraps his foot around the ball and finds the target there. However, he played a clever ball for Watkins to set up the England winner.”

The Sun wrote: “Cole Palmer – 7/10.

“Had his big chance in the final minutes but shanked it horribly wide – but then fed Watkins for his wonderful winner.”

Sky Sports wrote: “Cole Palmer – 7/10.

“Given less than 15 minutes, Palmer still had time to produce the assist for Watkins’ brilliant winner. The Chelsea star could have entered the field earlier as Bellingham, Foden and Saka tired. He’ll have a role to play in the final.”

Short but sweet cameo from Chelsea ace

Palmer is the first name on the team sheet when playing for Chelsea, but he’s had to adapt to this new role on the international stage

He’s been a substitute in England’s last four matches now at the Euros.

Most importantly, the versatile attacker hasn’t sulked and makes an impact when he’s on the pitch.

FotMob has provided data from Palmer’s brief appearance versus the Netherlands.
