'I am going': Pat Nevin predicts where Chelsea will finish in the Premier League this season

Pat Nevin has made his prediction about where he thinks Chelsea will finish in the Premier League during this new season.

Like in recent years, Chelsea go into a fresh Premier League campaign with a lot of uncertainty around them. It’s Enzo Maresca who’s the newest man to sit in the dugout as the club’s head coach.

The Blues officially kickstart their new season on Sunday when they host reigning champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. How many new signings will be included in the first team selection of the season?

It’s been confirmed by Maresca during his pre-match press conference that Pedro Neto is fit enough to face Man City, as quoted by Chelsea’s YouTube channel. Let’s see if the summer recruit is thrown straight into the XI, though.

Pat Nevin predicts where Chelsea will finish in the Premier League

Pat Nevin admits predicting Chelsea’s Premier League season is extremely tough because they’re so erratic, but he’s gone with them to finish fourth and reach the Champions League positions.

Nevin told BBC Sport: “It is a complete guess but I am going to be wild and say Chelsea will sneak in, in fourth place. If you take last season as a whole, it could be anything again this time. But if you look at the last few games, then they looked fine – they will be good, even.”

Can Chelsea improve their home form?

If Chelsea have aspirations of getting back into the top four, surely their form at the Bridge will need to improve. Let’s hope Maresca can make the home stadium a fortress from day one.

Here is a look at how Chelsea fared last season in their Premier League matches at home…

Matches Wins Draws Losses Goals scored Goals against Points
19 11 4 4 44 26 37

It doesn’t get much tougher than hosting Man City on the opening day of the season, but they did actually hold them to a 4-4 draw last season. You could argue now is a good time to play them, especially as key player Rodri is absent this weekend.

It’s the home defeats to the likes of Brentford and Nottingham Forest that the Blues must try cut out this time around.
