'Might surprise people': Simon Jordan has positive prediction for Chelsea ahead of new season

TalkSPORT regular Simon Jordan may find himself in a couple of debates about Chelsea over the next few weeks.

The new Premier League season is about to start and Chelsea will be hoping to finish in the top four.

However, not too many people are likely to give them much of a chance after a few chaotic months at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino in May before replacing him with Enzo Maresca in June, while a lot has also been going on at Cobham. For example, Conor Gallagher is currently stranded at Chelsea after his move to Atletico Madrid was put on hold.

Simon Jordan tips Chelsea to have good season

Amid all of the chaos at Chelsea, Jordan is still backing the Blues to claim a Champions League spot this term.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace owner said: “If Maresca has anything about him, I think he’ll pick up on some of the successes that Pochettino has, and I think Chelsea might surprise people.

“I’m tipping Chelsea to finish inside the top four, and I realise that will incite ridicule, but we’ll see.”

Chelsea kick-off their campaign against one of their rivals for the top four, Manchester City. They will be expected to win the Premier League trophy, not just qualify for the Champions League, so it is not going to be an easy game for Maresca’s men.

New signing Pedro Neto could make his debut against them, and Neto is looking forward to playing with Enzo Fernandez following his move to west London.

What Enzo Maresca can learn from Mauricio Pochettino

Maresca will obviously want to do things his own way at Stamford Bridge this season, but there are a few lessons that the new Chelsea manager can learn from Pochettino.

For example, he can look at how the Argentine got the best out of Cole Palmer, who often played on the right last term but was allowed to drift inside to more central positions.

Maximising Palmer’s full potential should not be too difficult for Maresca, who has already worked with the England international before.

That could be the key to Chelsea having a good season and finishing inside the top four.
