Two Premier League clubs made last-minute move to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea – Fabrizio Romano
Overnight saw Chelsea star Conor Gallagher make up his mind over where his future lies for the upcoming season.
The England international seemed to have been told he has no future at the club after deciding not to sign a new contract with the club.
It got to the point where Gallagher had been told he would be dropped from the first team squad if he chose to stay and run out the last year of his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Last night though it seems that the midfielder who captained the club for more than half of last season decided he would be joining Atletico Madrid, with only the final few details needing to be ironed out before that deal is confirmed.
Gallagher will be travelling to Madrid today to make the deal official, with the club no doubt happy to see him not joining a direct rival.
It looks as if they were not actually the only side interested in signing him though. Fabrizio Romano has stated that there was late interest from Premier League sides in bringing him in this summer.
Premier League sides made late move for Conor Gallagher
He said: “More on Conor Gallagher and Atlético Madrid. Two PL clubs tried to enter the race but Gallagher considered two options: sign new two-year deal at Chelsea or join Atlético.
“Proposal accepted tonight on contract valid until June 2029, waiting for formal steps later today.”
While the sides have not been named, Tottenham are one club who have previously been credited with interest in signing the midfielder.
Gallagher travelling to Atletico Madrid today
Aston Villa had a club-record bid accepted for Gallagher earlier this summer too, however the player’s preference to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge saw them look another direction.
The situation is no doubt unfortunate on a human level for Gallagher, with the player coming through the academy at Chelsea before making a real impact on the first team.
There were doubts over how he would do in new manager Enzo Maresca’s system, and now it seems as if the Italian will not even get a look at him in action before he makes the move to La Liga.
