United States fans react to former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino taking over the national team

The most recently fired Chelsea manager has reportedly found himself is first job back in football.

It was reported today that Mauricio Pochettino had accepted a deal that would make him the new head coach of the United States Men’s National Team, ahead of them hosting the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentine had been linked to a number of jobs, including with fellow elite Premier League sides.

However, it is the international stage he will be venturing onto for his first job since departing Stamford Bridge.

USA fans delighted with Pochettino

United States supporters have taken to social media to share how delighted they are about the new appointment their nation have made.

One user said: “Mauricio Pochettino is our new U.S. head coach, I’ll gladly take that. Had history, of coaching some of the best most talented players. And has built solid teams in the past, hope we got this one right as the World Cup is only 2 years away.”

Another user added: “Mauricio Pochettino to the USMNT. Done deal, wake up America we are so back.”

A third claimed: “Hiring Pochettino is no guarantee of success for the USMNT but hating on this hire would be complete nonsense. He is above any of the realistic candidates, he would only be below someone like Klopp which was never realistic to begin with. It’s an A+ hire but ultimately he will get judged based on the results he delivers!”

Another stated: “If anyone is being negative about the Pochettino news just unfollow them because they are perpetually miserable and will never be happy.”

Finally, one user said: “Pochettino is a fantastic hire for the #USMNT. Probably the most accomplished coach we have ever had.”

Chelsea meanwhile will be going into the new campaign with Enzo Maresca at the helm, as he prepares for his first season as a Premier League manager.

While the results of the pre-season tour of the United States paled in comparison to those under Pochettino, there is still confidence in the first team picking up the new boss’ way of playing ahead of their return to action this weekend.
