'Enjoy it a lot': Wesley Fofana claims he loves playing with 'fantastic' Chelsea teammate
Wesley Fofana has named the teammate in Chelsea’s squad that he’s really enjoying playing with so far this season.
For Chelsea fans, it’s been a joy to watch Wesley Fofana back on the football pitch in the opening weeks of this campaign. The 23-year-old defender missed the whole of last season with a long-term injury, but he’s played every minute of the Blues’ first three Premier League matches this term.
Speaking via The Athletic in the summer, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall said Fofana looked sharp in pre-season. Well, the Frenchman’s certainly started the 2024/25 campaign impressively as he builds up his fitness and match sharpness.

Wesley Fofana praises Levi Colwill
Chelsea’s Fofana claims he’s really enjoying his partnership at centre-back alongside Levi Colwill. It’s a new-look combination in the central defence so far this season, with the Fofana-Colwill duo starting every league match.
When asked if he’s enjoying playing alongside Colwill, Fofana responded via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “Yeah, I enjoy it a lot. Levi is my guy. We train a lot in training. We try so many things. I feel good and confident with him. It is good.”
Chelsea must stick with these two
Chelsea were frequently changing their centre-halves last year, something they must stamp out this season.
It looks like Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has gone with Fofana and Colwill as his preferred partnership in the heart of defence, so it would be great for them to get a long run of games together. Of course, it makes sense for a bit of rotation in domestic and European cup competitions.
In Fofana and Colwill, Chelsea have two extremely talented young centre-backs. They’re both quick and mobile defenders, plus extremely comfortable with the ball at their feet.
For Fofana, it’s about keeping himself fit and slowly getting back to his very best.
As for 21-year-old Colwill, he’s now beginning to thrive in his natural position after covering at left-back sometimes last season. Speaking recently via Chelsea’s YouTube channel, Maresca hailed Colwill as a “fantastic profile”.
