Chelsea fans all noticed one exciting thing about Renato Veiga after his debut for Portugal

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga had a night to remember on Saturday after earning his first senior cap for Portugal.

Renato Veiga started in Portugal’s 3-1 win against Poland alongside Chelsea teammate Pedro Neto.

The 21-year-old has mostly been used in the left-back position at Chelsea this season, but Roberto Martinez decided to play him in central defence for Portugal.

With Marc Cucurella suspended for the Blues’ trip to Anfield after the international break, Veiga will be expected to start at left-back against Liverpool.

Chelsea fans on Renato Veiga’s Portugal debut

Unsurprisingly, with Veiga making his first appearance for Portugal and Neto also starting for the 2016 European champions, Chelsea supporters took a keen interest in their game against Poland.

Watching it, they noticed how well Veiga played and took to social media to share that.

@CFCicky posted on X: “An impressive first half from Veiga playing at LCB, his versatility is unbelievable.”

@CFC_JOAN said: “Renato Veiga looking good at CB. Love his versatility, does look comfortable wherever he plays.”

And finally, @ChrisCFC1990 wrote: “Renato Veiga is a serious player. The Chelsea recruitment department look like they have identified another gem.”

Neto also put in a performance that Chelsea fans would have been impressed with. Neto led the way in two stats during the game.

Renato Veiga’s stats in Portugal’s victory over Poland

Veiga only managed to earn a 6.5 match rating on Sofascore; however, the Chelsea star still managed to do well in a couple of areas.

For example, the same website shows that Veiga made seven clearances, more than any other Portugal player.

He also won two aerial duels. Only Manchester City’s Ruben Dias managed to win more. Again, then, it was a pretty solid debut overall.

Veiga will probably have to go up another gear when Chelsea take on Liverpool, though. Arne Slot’s men are flying in the Premier League at the moment, currently sitting at the top of the table on 18 points.

Having lost just one game in the top flight so far, however, Veiga and the rest of Enzo Maresca‘s side will believe that they can get at least a point at Anfield next Sunday.
