Chelsea fans urge Enzo Maresca to pick ‘very important’ player in the starting XI vs Manchester United

Chelsea travel to Old Trafford this weekend in search of three points against rivals Manchester United.

The Blues are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they play away at Man United.

Enzo Maresca’s side can reflect on a positive opening quarter to the season, which puts them fifth in the league table after nine games. Liverpool boss Arne Slot recently insisted Chelsea are firmly in the top-four picture this season.

Meanwhile, Man United have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as the club’s interim manager for the next three games before Ruben Amorim officially takes charge.

Chelsea fans demand Marc Cucurella starts vs Manchester United

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are insisting that Marc Cucurella, 26, should be included in the starting XI this weekend for the league trip to Man United.

Cucurella should be back in Chelsea’s team at Old Trafford after not starting either of the last two league matches. The left-back was suspended against Liverpool, while he was on the bench for last weekend’s win over Newcastle United.

The Spain international got 90 minutes in midweek during the Blues’ Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle, but all eyes will be on the team announcement to see if he’s back in the league XI.

Here are Blues fans on X insisting that Cucurella should be picked in the starting line-up versus Man United:

@Eleniyan93 wrote: “Cucurella should play ahead of Gusto on Sunday. I’m not seeing what Gusto is adding to that team at the moment.”

@R45lavia posted: “Cucurella has had at least a 7/10 every game he’s started. Definitely should start.”

@ChinonsoLucas claimed: “I want to see Cucurella start against United.”

@Tunnykvng said: “Would love to see Cucurella start the Man United game.”

@Brown_itesot shared: “Up to now I don’t know why Maresca is dropping this monster in the LB position. Cucurella has to start on Sunday.”

Marc Cucurella is crucial to Chelsea

Despite not starting in back-to-back league games, Cucurella is definitely still a key player in the Chelsea squad. It’s quite clear what the Blues fanbase thinks about him, too.

Maresca described Cucurella as “very important” last month, so it’s logical to think it’s only a matter of time before he breaks back into the best XI.

Reece James and Malo Gusto, who are both traditionally right-backs, started in the full-back areas last weekend against Newcastle. Surely, there’s a much better balance to the side if Cucurella is restored on the left of defence.

Cucurella deserves huge credit for turning his Chelsea career around, which in the early stages looked a mess as he struggled for form. Now, he’s so dependable whenever he plays and is the best left-back at the club.
