'Deserves a shoutout': Martin Keown super impressed by 'quick' Chelsea player this season
Chelsea are definitely moving in the right direction this season with results and performances on the pitch, with many individuals finding some top form.
Enzo Maresca arrived as Chelsea manager in the summer and is quickly getting a tune out of his players.
So far, the Blues have 10 wins, four draws, and four defeats from their opening 18 games across all competitions.
In terms of the Premier League, they sit third in the division table during the November international break. Opta now predicts Chelsea are most likely to finish fourth in the Premier League this season.

Martin Keown praises Wesley Fofana for impressive season
Martin Keown believes Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana has put together a brilliant season so far. In fact, he’s included the 23-year-old Blues defender in his list of the Premier League’s top five centre-backs this campaign, ranking him in fifth spot.
Keown told talkSPORT: “When I first saw him for play for Leicester, Fofana, I thought, ‘What a wonderful talent.’
“Quick, he smothers his opponents, gets around them, good with the ball, likes to travel out with it.
“He’s starting to now fulfil that potential when he went to Chelsea for huge amounts of money [£75million].
“I think Fofana deserves a shoutout for his performances.”
Fofana claimed he delivered his best ever Chelsea performance last Sunday against Arsenal as he helped his side record a 1-1 league draw.
The ball-playing centre-half is impressing in the heart of the Blues defence, where he’s formed a great understanding alongside Levi Colwill.
Wesley Fofana patience is being rewarded at Chelsea
Despite joining Chelsea from Leicester City back in the summer of 2022, Fofana made just his 30th first-team appearance for them last weekend.
The Frenchman has been desperately unlucky with a long-term injury at Stamford Bridge, which is why it’s so rewarding to see him back playing and impressing this season.
| Season | Appearances |
| 2022/23 | 20 |
| 2023/24 | 0 |
| 2024/25 | 10 |
Robbie Mustoe insists Chelsea’s Fofana can still grow into a world-class player, but he’s going to need some much better fortune when it comes to injuries.
There’s no doubt that the Blues centre-back has all the tools of an elite defender with his pace, strength, and ball-playing qualities. However, can he find the consistency that top-class players have?
