'I actually think': Chris Sutton predicts the score for Leicester vs Chelsea on Saturday

Chelsea are back after the international break with a trip to Leicester City tomorrow afternoon.

The Blues visit the King Power Stadium on Saturday to face Leicester in the Premier League, which is a fixture that has some extra intrigue because of the managerial situation.

Enzo Maresca led Leicester to promotion from the Championship last season as the Foxes boss. However, he decided to leave the East Midlands in the summer to take on the role as the Chelsea manager at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca has confirmed Chelsea’s Reece James is unavailable versus Leicester. In terms of the rest of the squad, the Blues head coach kept his cards close to his chest and refused to confirm any other injuries.

Chris Sutton predicts Leicester vs Chelsea

BBC pundit Chris Sutton is tipping Chelsea to secure a pretty comfortable win on the road at Leicester in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Sutton told BBC Sport: “Enzo Maresca is back at Leicester for the first time since he left to take charge of Chelsea in the summer, and I actually think his return will be quite straightforward for him and his side…

“Like a lot of promoted clubs, the Foxes concede too many goals and that is one of the reasons I am backing Chelsea here. The Blues have been in good form under Maresca and this is probably the easiest prediction of the week.

“The only thing that makes me question whether Chelsea will win is because you never know quite where teams are after the international break, and also how many of their injured players will still be out. Cole Palmer was one of them, but I am willing to bet he will start this game. If he is fit, they will have a little bit too much for Leicester.

“Sutton’s prediction: 1-3.”

Similarly, Paul Merson tips Chelsea to beat Leicester this weekend during their clash at the King Power.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Maresca is welcomed back to the East Midlands just a few months after his exit. Apparently, Leicester were angered by Maresca leaving them for Chelsea, but the decision looks justified because he’s settled extremely quickly at his new home.

Home form vs away form

So far this season, Chelsea have a stronger record on the road than at home in the Premier League. Therefore, there’s reason to be encouraged going into the Leicester trip.

Here is a comparison between the Blues’ home form versus their away form in the league:

Games played Wins Draws Losses Goals scored Goals against Goal difference Points
6 2 3 1 9 8 +1 9
Chelsea’s home form in the 2024/25 Premier League season
Games played Wins Draws Losses Goals scored Goals against Goal difference Points
5 3 1 1 12 5 +7 10
Chelsea’s away form in the 2024/25 Premier League season

Maresca’s side currently sits third in the league table, and the weekend’s early kick-off gives them a chance to consolidate their position in the top four.

Interestingly, Leicester have just one win from their five home matches in the top flight this campaign, so Chelsea should travel there with real optimism.
